Insurance Entrepreneur

Gary Burke started his insurance career with a Lloyd’s of London Broker specialising in Fine Art & Jewellery, placing risks with Lloyd’s of London syndicates and London Market Insurers.  Classes of business included large Fine Art & Jewellery collections and their homes and contents (now referred to as mid and high net worth insurance), Museums, Art Galleries, Diamond Dealers and Wholesalers, and some Commercial insurance and Marine Cargo.

In 1994 he started Home & Legacy after identifying the need for Provincial Brokers to have access to a mid/high net worth product via Composite Insurers instead of Lloyd’s of London.  Commercial Union (now Aviva) were first to underwrite the policy and the panel eventually grew to 7.  Home & Legacy was sold to Allianz in July 2006.

In 2006 he started iprism after identifying the need for Provincial Brokers to have better access to markets and technology for SME insurance.  The iprism portal provided instant comparative pricing across a range of insurers, and the iprism team delivered improved service levels and quicker underwriting decisions.  Bowmark Capital acquired a controlling stake in iprism in 2014.

In 2016 Gary founded EGV, a managing general underwriter (MGU) specialising in UK mid-market commercial insurance. Its well-recognised and highly experienced executive team have created an exciting and unique offering akin to a virtual insurer. It has quickly gained traction in the market and is regularly writing policies in excess of £50,000.
